Happy birthday to Scream Queen, Barbara Crampton

Barbara Crampton made her name in campy 80’s Horror classics like Re-Animator, From Beyond and Chopping Mall. After the Golden Age of the genre, she continued steady work in the B-movie field, and in 2015 proved a particularly hot commodity, starring in five films. She always lights up a screen, and her talent and beauty have not diminished a bit over her thirty year career.

Happy birthday, Edwige Fenech

The Goddess of Giallo, and Queen of Italian Sexy Comedies

Pic of The Day: Alain Delon, Marianne Faithfull and Mick Jagger, 1967

Because even when you’re Mick Jagger, sometimes you’re not the most interesting man in the room. Delon’s style makes Jagger’s mismatched socks, beat down shoes and scruffy coif look entirely adolescent. Hell, Delon even has that uncanny French knack for turning a cigarette into a desirable accessory, while Mick is dreaming of the advent of the cell phone. Either way, Marianne’s in the proverbial catbird seat. Taken in 1967, at a discussion with director Jack Cardiff on his film The Girl On A Motorcycle, starring Faithfull and Delon.

Songs of The Day : Hoagy Carmichael with Jane Russell – I Get Along Without You Very Well (Except Sometimes), and Hoagy Carmichael with Lauren Bacall – How Little We Know

Happy birthday to the legendary songwriter responsible for the standards Stardust, Heart and Soul, The Nearness of You, and Georgia On My Mind, to name but a few. Hoagy Carmichael also appeared in numerous movies, performing his own songs, often with a variety of stars. Today’s SOTD selections are from The Las Vegas Story, and To Have and Have Not, respectively.

Louise Brooks would have been 99 today

“I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife.”

With that iconic, sharp bob, and a sexually liberated attitude, Louise Brooks virtually defined the Flapper era of femininity.

Here’s a BBC documentary, as I always find their docs entertaining and well produced (though I have not watched this one yet).

And her most enduring performance, as Lulu in G.W. Pabst’s 1929 film, Pandora’s Box…

It’s Hedy!

Hedy Lamarr would have been 101 today.
“I’m a sworn enemy of convention. I despise the conventional in anything, even the arts.”
