Happy birthday to Looney Tunes genius, Chuck Jones

Every adult should have a deep and abiding love for Chuck Jones and the hours of entertainment, and artistic education, that we, as children, received at the hands of his creative genius. As an adult, I have an even greater appreciation for his innovative talents. Do yourself a favor, watch this and return to a more innocent time.

The new Jane Weaver video, Mission Desire

Using visuals taken from the 1960’s French animated short, Marie Mathematique, Jane Weaver follows up the phenomenal Don’t Take My Soul (one of my favorites from this year) with another trippy winner. Follow the links for further Marie Mathematique eye candy, backed by the music, and voice, of Serge Gainsbourg.

Happy birthday to the creator of The Boondocks, Aaron McGruder

Intelligent, controversial and above all hilarious, The Boondocks managed to successfully address difficult and polarizing topics, in it’s own distinct voice and confident manner, never losing sight of either the issues or humor.

Chuck Jones’ process for creating Rikki-Tikki-Tavi

I’ve maintained an abiding fondness for Rikki-Tikki-Tavi since first witnessing it in the 70’s. Animator, Chuck Jones, managed to imbue the story’s animal characters with substantial and varied anthropomorphic qualities, while never losing sight of the fact that they were still animals. The use of nuanced expression and fluid motion created a complex film, far more intense than the children’s story subject matter might suggest. And damn, those cobras were scary!
Here’s the mental floss piece that got me started on this… http://mentalfloss.com/article/64252/how-chuck-jones-animated-mongoose-rikki-tikki-tavi
And with the miracle of the internet you don’t have to wait for the once a year showing that it used to receive.
