Chuck Jones’ process for creating Rikki-Tikki-Tavi

I’ve maintained an abiding fondness for Rikki-Tikki-Tavi since first witnessing it in the 70’s. Animator, Chuck Jones, managed to imbue the story’s animal characters with substantial and varied anthropomorphic qualities, while never losing sight of the fact that they were still animals. The use of nuanced expression and fluid motion created a complex film, far more intense than the children’s story subject matter might suggest. And damn, those cobras were scary!

And with the miracle of the internet you don’t have to wait for the once a year showing that it used to receive.
