In addition to his Avant Garde composition, Iannis Xenakis was also an architect, who worked with the famed Le Corbusier, creating, among other things, the 1958 Brussels World Fair, Philips Pavilion. Xenakis Pavilion design was inspired by his own composition, Metastaseis, and music was integrated in to the design, which featured both Xenakis’ work, and Poème électronique, by fellow Avant champion, Edgard Varese.

Xenakis was also a member of Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry’s, Groupe de Recherches de Musique Concrète, which promoted the study and composition of electronic music, which led to his pioneering use of computers for composition.
