“I can’t find the words to describe the sorrow in my heart upon learning the news of my dear friend, Roddy Piper, passing away. He was my closest friend in the business, a man that schooled me and guided me throughout my career. In fact, if it wasn’t for Roddy Piper reaching out to help me, I’m sure I would’ve been a mere footnote in wrestling. He was always there for me. He was family to me, a brother who loved me and was there for me through my darkest days. He was the only wrestler to come visit me when I suffered a stroke in 2002. He totally made me at Wrestlemania 8 in our classic match. Passing a torch that many from that era couldn’t conceive of doing. We always called each other “cuz” because we were so close. I loved you Roddy, and I’ll miss you and your laugh for the rest of my days. I’m stunned and the hole in my heart will widen as it sinks in that I lost a brother of such great worth. What a tragic loss to all that knew him.”

Changing The Questions: Rowdy Roddy Piper Facts Every Wrestling Fan Should Know
Happy birthday to the Nature Boy, Ric Flair. Woooooooo!
Not only is Ric Flair one of the Top 5 wrestlers of all time (I’m not taking any polls here, it’s just a matter of fact), his skills on the mic are legendary.
As it happens, I have a personal Ric Flair story, that’s kinda awesome. Back in the mid-80’s, when I was a teen, I happened to be on a trip with my dad in NYC. One evening we ended up at the swank Helmsley Palace Lounge, where I was sipping $6 cokes, and all of a sudden there was a ruckus at a booth. Some folks were getting their drunk on and having a blast. There were 3 or 4 big haired, bleach blonde females seated with two gentleman. Those two gentleman? Ric Flair and Tully Blanchard (To be fair, Ric has spent more money on “spilt liquor” than you’ve made, let’s remember). Okay, just so you know what a big deal this was, let me give you some wrestling history. This was at a point where Flair and Blanchard were mortal enemies, fighting it out week after week. It was a huge story line at the time. And here I am, watching these two combatants getting loose together, which was amazing enough, but ya know the best part? A few weeks later Flair and Blanchard got together with the Anderson Brothers, Arn and Ole, and formed the most epic wrestling crew of all time, THE FOUR HORSEMEN! All I could say was, I saw it coming! Long live the Nature Boy!

It’s Andy Kaufman’s Birthday. Time for classic clips…
I remember as a kid, watching alotta the Kaufman wrestling saga play out and not being sure what was real and what was not. Kaufman was so good at playing the heel, I’m still not entirely sure what happened, but damn if he didn’t really have people hating him for it. He antagonized the wrestling crowds just as he had comedy crowds with his confrontational and bizarre performances. Kaufman blurred the lines between reality and character so effectively, that even his close friends were concerned, unsure if it all was an act or a desperate cry for help. That truly rare level of commitment is something to celebrate.
